Both NFL franchises have already received the green light from the authorities for stadium construction. In Buffalo, ground was even broken in June 2023. The new stadium will have a seating capacity of 60,000 to 62,000 and will be built on a nearly one-square-kilometre site opposite the current Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park in New York State. A roof, which will cover about 65% of all seats, will protect spectators from the sometimes extreme weather conditions. The façade of the new stadium is to be designed to protect the playing field from direct wind impact. Nashville’s NFL franchise also received the green light from the city council for a new building in April 2023. Groundbreaking is expected to take place in early to mid2024, with opening planned for 2027. The Titans’ new stadium is also in the region of 60,000 seats. Meanwhile, the Jacksonville Jaguars are still waiting for approval, but at least they already have quite concrete plans for the complete renovation of TIAA Bank Field. In total, Jaguars President Mark Lamping expects costs of 1.2 to 1.4 billion euros for the modernisation and reconstruction of the stadium. In addition, there would be further costs of between 510 million and 620 million euros for the construction of a new sports quarter. Added together, the investment framework for the “Stadium of the Future” project is thus between 1.6 billion and 1.9 billion euros. Highlights of the new venue are supposed to be, for example, the possibility of increasing capacity from 62,500 to 71,500 seats for college football games (even more for concerts) as well as the open-air character of the stadium, whose canopy is supposed to lower the outside temperatures by 10-15 degrees Celsius and protect the fans from the weather.
