The world of solid and multiwall sheets - Versatility at its best

Exolon Group – a new name for an established company in the plastics market

Exolon Group is a leading supplier of extruded thermoplastic transparent or translucent solid and multiwall polycarbonate sheets, as well as solid polyester sheets and opaque blend materials.

The Exolon Group stands for People, Passion and Performance. It is a company with employees (People) who develop, produce, and sell multiwall and solid sheets with enthusiasm (Passion) to deliver outstanding service and quality (Performance). This is achieved using a wide range and variety of the most suitable raw materials, the permanent optimization of production processes and the special promotion of innovative technologies.

The Exolon Group, formerly part of Covestro AG, has been operating as an independent company since January 2020 and belongs to the Serafin Group. It continues to focus on the production and distribution of high-quality transparent or translucent solid and multiwall sheets. Thanks to many years of experience in the field of sheet extrusion, the Exolon Group can offer a comprehensive product portfolio, which is used in the construction and lighting industry, as well as in the fields of mechanical engineering, visual communication and mobility, amongst others.

The European extrusion sites in Belgium and Italy produce material to a consistently high-quality standard.

Exolon Group’s product portfolio: premium polycarbonate and polyester sheets

The highest technical and creative demands are met by five strong brands: Exolon® polycarbonate solid and multiwall sheets, Vivak®, Axpet® polyester sheets , opaque Exoblend® blend material. These products are all made from high-quality raw materials and have good recycling properties.

Exolon® solid and multiwall sheets are a range of transparent and translucent polycarbonate sheets with extremely high impact strength. This is an excellent property that is retained even over a wide range of temperatures.

Vivak® sheets are made from versatile copolyester which has good thermoforming properties, making them ideal for the production of thermoformed objects of all kinds.

Axpet® sheets are thermoplastic polyester sheets that are particularly suitable for the manufacture of products for merchandise and advertising presentations.

ECORANGE Sustainable transparent Polycarbonate and Polyester sheets for a better environment. The ECORANGE represents a line of products which attribute to improved sustainability by having a lower ecological footprint through the use of recycled and renewable materials.

Exolon® GP B, Vivak® GP B und Exoblend® sheets are opaque, coloured plastic sheets based on Polyester or Polycarbonate or ABS Blends which have a high impact strength and are easy to thermoform and process.

Solid and multiwall sheets for football stadiums and sports arenas – the ultimate experience

Sports stadiums must outperform in many respects: logistics, catering, security, technology and service must be well thought out for many thousands of people. Whereas stadiums in the 1970s were geared solely to functionality, modern sports arenas today are a temple of experience. This is also reflected in the architecture in open and transparent constructions

The Exolon Group's solid and multiwall sheets have long since become an established material in stadium construction, because without high-tech plastics such as polycarbonate, the large-scale transparent roof structures in particular would not be feasible. The advantages of plastic sheets are manifold: low weight, easy processing also on site, high impact resistance as protection against vandalism or hail, high temperature resistance, high light transmission as well as tested noise reduction. This allows the realization of sophisticated architectural designs as well as ecological and economical construction.

There are numerous new or rebuilt sports facilities around Europe that bear impressive testimony to the outstanding abilities of polycarbonate sheets and their freedom of design.

Conversion of the Wildpark stadium - protection and light under one roof

An example is the reconstruction of the Wildpark Stadium in Karlsruhe: The roof of the new east stand consists of a steel structure and the covering of the front section, facing the field, is made from transparent polycarbonate sheets from the Exolon Group. In addition to protecting the spectators from rain, snow and hail, this also provides plenty of natural light inside the stadium.

Football stadium in Gdansk – A stadium covered in the gold of the Baltic Sea.

The European Soccer Championship 2012 was held at the "PGE Arena Gdansk", where more than 45,000 square metres of a special stadium sheet made of Makrolon® were installed. It was used both as the grandstand roofing as well as for the outer shell of the Gdansk sports facility. A combination that has never been seen before in this form. In addition, each individual multiwall sheet is coloured in six different shades, ranging from white to amber. Thus, the arena embodies the characteristic of the region. Amber, the gold of the Baltic Sea, was chosen as the colour scheme according to the designers' wishes.

Multiwall polycarbonate sheets transform the Allianz Stadium in Vienna into a ‘green hell’

The most modern soccer stadium in Austria is equipped with multiwall sheets covering approximately 19,000 square metres of roof and wall space. A significant challenge for the new building was to reduce noise pollution for the residents. This is where the polycarbonate multiwall sheet scores with its sound insulation properties in conjunction with the closed roof corners of the stadium. The club colours of SK Rapid are reflected in the four different green tones of the Exolon® multiwall sheets and were used as a design element in the roof and wall spaces. The stadium blends therefore into its surroundings, almost like a green forest.

Plastic sheets diversifying lighting and advertising technology

In addition to applications in roof and facade constructions, polycarbonate sheets have been successfully used in the LED lighting industry for many years creating innovative material solutions.

Homogeneous and glare-free light distribution tailored for LED technology – hotspots are a thing of the past

When a large number of LEDs are used, it places the highest demands on homogeneous light diffusion. Whether challenged with brightness, wide or low light scattering or glare control, the Exolon® DX product family offers designers and engineers the flexibility to implement even the most demanding lighting plans simply and systematically. It offers system solutions that can be implemented with efficient light scattering to form a homogeneous unit. Even with slim constructions, hotspots disappear while maintaining high light transmission and uniform brightness.

Incident light colour remains unchanged even upon exit, thanks to the synthesis of a specialised high transparent polycarbonate raw material with scattering additives. This gives the ideal lighting solution for adjustable cold/warm white and RGB coloured LEDs.

Depending on the intended use, different surface variants can be selected: UV-resistant, with hard coating or flame-retardant.

Exolon® SX Sharp solid sheets are transparent polycarbonate sheets with a microstructured appearance on one side and a glossy surface on the other. They enable an optimum UGR value (Unified Glare Rating) to be achieved SX Sharp sheets have been specially developed for glare protection in lighting.

Backlit spaces illuminating advertising displays

Manufacturers of illuminated advertising not only need the appropriate illuminant, but also a material that distributes the light homogeneously and allows colours to shine. The Exolon Group's Exolon® UV AdLight is a solid polycarbonate sheet that has been specially developed for illuminated advertising. High light diffusion is combined with good light transmission to meet the requirements of modern illuminated advertising, based on LED technology.

The translucent solid sheet has one glossy and one matt surface, each with UV protection, so that each side can be used according to the desired application. It is also possible to print on the glossy side without any problems. In addition, they can be used flat or thermoformed, depending on the design project.
