Drainage systems for World Cup stadiums

Brazilian stadiums and infrastructure are renovated for the 2014 FIFA World Cup. All improvements are based in LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) of Green Building Council Brazil. Concerning the drainage, ACO Brazil provides technical solutions for every need.

ACO Brazil is present in one of the most modern stadiums in the world: Arena Corinthians, located in São Paulo City, which will be the opening of the Brazil World Cup 2014. Besides a large LED screen with 170 meters of width per 20 meter of height on the outside and luxuries finishing with marble and granite in the inside, a suction system to guarantee a quick flow of rainwater was installed in the field area, all of it approved by FIFA. In the external area, ACO has provided more than 1,900 meters of channels for pedestrian circulation, including a big quantity of Brickslot grating which offered a modern and attractive visual.

The Estádio Jornalista Mário Filho or the famous Maracanã, located in Rio de Janeiro, with a capacity of 76,000 people, was completed renovated inside and outside. In the outside area, ACO Brazil could provide more than 500 meters of Monoblock PD200 in the bike path around the stadium. In addition to provide high performance in surface drainage, this solution is in line with the accessibility standards giving safety to the public who pass through there. An important feature of Monoblock channels is the fact that the channel is 100 per cent made of polymer concrete. According to ACO it thus does not exhibit corrosion, but keeps the hydraulic efficiency and finish over time, even in saline environments such as the city of Rio de Janeiro.

In addition to the opening and final game of the World Cup, ACO Brazil has provided solutions for surface drainage in Arena Pantanal, Arena Pernambuco and Estádio Castelão. In Pernambuco Arena, located in Recife, ACO provides more than 400 meters of Monoblock that were installed around the field. The application in Estádio Castelão, located in Fortaleza, was the same of the Pernambuco Arena, with more than 400 meters of Monoblock around the field. In Arena Pantanal, located in Cuiabá, the company could lay more than 800 meters of Monoblock, inside and outside of the stadium. (Stadiaworld, 19.11.2013)
