Highlights of the U.S. Bank Stadium Sustainability Program

The U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis is the home of Super Bowl LII on Sunday when the New England Patriots face the Philadelphia Eagles. The modern venue in Minnesota was opened in June 2016 and includes a Sustainability Program.

There are different aspects for sustainability in a large stadium as in Minneapolis. We give you an overwiew about the details of the Program.

Energy

The U.S. Bank Stadium offsets 100% of its energy with renewable energy credits. The innovative design of the stadium reduced the amount of steel that was needed for construction.

Lighting

The U.S. Bank Stadium was also the first NFL stadium to open with modern LED lighting. LED lighting consumes 75 % less energy compared to a traditional metal halide.
The ETFE roof substantially reduces the need for daytime artificial lighting, offers benefits of natural daylight and passive solar heating

Heat reservoir

Sloped roof forms a lofted interior "heat reservoir" storing solar heat that acts as a natural snow melt system

Zero Waste facility

Part of the Sustainability program is working towards the goal of becoming a zero waste facility and supporting green education with STEM tours for school groups. Harmful toxins were avoided with inclusion of healthy materials and healthy cleaning products that do not contaminate the indoor environment. (Stadiaworld, 01.02.2018)
