LA Stadium Construction by the Numbers

Work on the future stadium of the NFL clubs LA Rams and LA Chargers are in full swing. Stadiaworld presents an overview of the completed and forthcoming works of the new stadium in Inglewood.

  • At approximately 120 hectare, this is one of the largest contiguous construction sites in the United States.
  • Two million worker hours have been completed to date since construction began.
  • Over 4,5 mil. m³ of dirt has been excavated to date; enough to fill 600,000 dump trucks. The majority is being recycled on site.
  • Workers are installing some 15,000 tons of reinforcement steel in concrete.
  • 34.400 m³ of concrete have been poured.
  • The structural retaining wall, which is a MSE (Mechanically Stabilized Earth) system, is 65 percent complete. The MSE design contains 1.783 km of steel straps, almost twice the length of the Pacific Coast Highway.
  • The workforce has grown to approximately 850 people daily. In a year, some 4,000 daily workers are expected to be on site.
  • The event level will be approximately 30 m below grade level.
  • Currently, there are eight cranes involved in construction. Soon, one of the largest cranes in the world will arrive to help complete erection of the roof structure.
  • The roof canopy requires 39 precast concrete support columns.
  • The new NFL home for the Chargers and Rams is on schedule to open for the 2020 season. Background:
LA Stadium contains 275 luxury suites, more than 16,000 premium seats, and almost three million square feet of usable space. It will also provide a seating capacity of 70,000, expandable up to 100,000 for special events. The project will include a 6,000-seat performance venue located under the same roof canopy as the stadium. The NFL stadium will be home field for the Los Angeles Rams and Los Angeles Chargers in 2020. It will be used for year-round events for sports and entertainment and will host Super Bowl LVI in February 2022, the College Football National Championship game in 2023 and the 2028 Opening & Closing Ceremonies of Olympic Games.
