Lighting expert publishes Climate Action Report

Signify has released its first Climate Action Report, which illustrates the progress of climate action across the company’s value chain. In the report the company can announce satisfactory developments.

By their own account, in the first year of its "Brighter Lives, Better World 2025" sustainability program, Signify is on track to meet the goals of the Paris Climate Agreement five years ahead of schedule. By switching entirely to green power, Signify could achieve climate neutrality in September 2020.

The company is expected to meet the Paris Climate Agreement’s 1.5°C compliance targets twice as early as specified. According to the report, Signify already generates 61 to 64 percent of its revenue from climate-friendly activities (the target for 2025 is 72 percent), helping to increase its positive impact on society and the environment by the end of 2025.

Climate change is one of the biggest challenges humanity has ever faced. Pollution and excessive consumption are rapidly increasing greenhouse gas emissions and warming the planet at an alarming rate. The latest IPCC report reiterates the warning of a “red alert” for the world's population and describes the catastrophic effects of rising temperatures.

“In the past year, the world has warmed at an unprecedented rate. There is a sense of uncertainty within society that calls for concrete action to minimize and avert the damage we humans have caused,” said Eric Rondolat, CEO of Signify in the Climate Action Report. “So it's clear to Signify that we're going to step up our efforts - and not just in our operations, but throughout our value chain. And that also means helping our stakeholders play a significant role in reducing our environmental footprint.”
