Lighting for Daytona 500

When the Musco Lighting Team lit the Daytona International Speedway in 1998, it was billed as the world’s largest single lit outdoor sports facility. It featured 2.000 luminaires producing 3,3 mio. watts per hour. The system has provided the level of reliability since then.

This fall as part of the 348 mio. Euro redevelopment known as Daytona Rising, changes to the frontstretch grandstand required installation of more than 700 Green Generation Lighting® HID luminaires.

In a recent article in SportsBusiness Journal, Musco’s Jeff Rogers said, “Our lighting is designed to make the racetrack the center stage so that everything else fades into the background. Our system provides a uniform light on the track without interrupting the fans’ field of view. Overall, our lighting is designed to provide three things: a safe environment for the drivers; quality lighting for broadcasting; and a safe, exciting experience for fans.”

On February 21, the Daytona International Speedway hosted the Daytona 500. For the last 58 years, the Daytona 500 has been one of NASCAR's most iconic races spanning 200 laps around the 4 km track. This year's race was televised on the Fox Network. (Stadionwelt, 02.05.2016)
