Tennis Hall wins UK award

Each year, SAPCA (Sports and Playground Construction Association), the trade association for the sport and recreation sector in the UK, awards a prize for an innovative product, new product or success story. This year a hall designed by Veldeman won a price.

On 5 February the tennis hall that Veldeman designed for its British partner Rocklyn for Ellesmere College won this SAPCA ‘Award for Excellence’. In doing so Rocklyn beat 17 other finalists.

The indoor tennis hall measuring 38m x 70m with 4 hard courts dovetailed perfectly with the school’s expectations and needs. Ellesmere College opted for a system where the sides and facades can be opened up to 3.8m in height. This means players can enjoy the feeling of playing outdoors in the summertime, but are protected against the cold, rain, wind and snow during the winter. Its translucent roof fabric provides natural light, positively impacting play experience and the sustainability of the tennis hall.

Ellesmere College is very satisfied with the end result and high-grade finish; the players are enthusiastic too. The tennis hall enhances Ellesmere College’s reputation as a leading tennis school. Brendan Wignall, the director of Ellesmere College, says: “The tennis centre is a high-quality addition to our facilities and ensures that Ellesmere stands out from other educational establishments. We look forward to attracting more students to join our excellent tennis programme in the years to come.” (Stadiaworld, 28.02.2018)
