The “Ruhr Games 21” were one of the sporting highlights this summer. This also included the glass floor from ASB GlassFloor, which offered innovative LED technology and formed the heart of the event.
At the largest sports and culture festival for young people, where around 5,600 young athletes from all over Europe competed against each other in 240 competitions, the full-LED video floor from ASB GlassFloor formed the center court.

In addition to that, the opening ceremony, other artistic performances and various sporting events took place on this area. One of the highlights was the premiere of the first UEC BMX Freestyle Flatland European Championship.
From June 3rd to 6th a lot of sport took place on the”spectacular” glass floor. “Depending on the event, the right picture or the perfect animation could be displayed at the push of a button on the glass floor, which works like a monitor in the floor, thus creating the ideal emotional framework for the respective event,” says ASB GlassFloor.
Matthias Dandois, winner of the BMX freestyle competition, praised the innovative glass floor from ASB: “This floor is perfect. It's great to see what you can depict. You have a floor and can do many different sports on it. This glass shelf is also perfect for our sport.”
But other athletes also seemed impressed by the “ASB LumiFlex”. In the 3x3 basketball tournament, for which the floor is ideally suited with its abilities, it offered the optimal support for big sports. “The glass floor feels very good and looks great. It's great fun to play on it”, said Shawn Gulley from ART Giants Düsseldorf.

The transportable sports floor made of glass is also suitable for further use. This can be rented up to an area of 216 square meters. The glass floor is also available in a cheaper version for entire sports halls. Here only the lines predefined by LED are switched on and off. A wide variety of sports fields such as basketball, hockey, handball, badminton and volleyball or many small training fields can be displayed at the touch of a button. Only the lines that are actually needed are displayed. The combination of both floors also opens up completely new possibilities for marketing.
The certified sports floor is FIBA accredited, approved for the German Handball League and complies with the European standard EN 14 904: 2006 for flexible sports floors. “Due to its elasticity and texture, including the ceramic dots burned into the glass surface, it offers perfect conditions that are gentle on the joints for the health of the athlete”, as the manufacturer states.
