Alternative Sports hall in Joué-les-Tours

The town of Joué-les-Tours south of Tours in central France was looking for a sports hall for a school and a neighbouring sports club that would be inexpensive to build and economic to maintain. Therefor the clients got together with the specialists from SMC2.

Sports halls with textile roofs can be a genuine alternative to traditional sports halls. Planning started with an analysis of the use of the facility and location, followed by the detailing of the budget and an examination of the applicable regulations and standards. The equipment of the hall was then defined. This included possible spectator stands, ancillary facilities or extended uses as well as the choice of suitable materials. The materials used for SMC2 sports hall have according to a statement of the company a small carbon footprint.

The building finally was completed and the keys were handed over. “The aesthetic result made a big impression,” says Gérard Terriot, deputy head of the youth and sport department in Joué-les-Tours.

Textile roofs for sports halls make economic sense and are eco-friendly, particularly when light, recyclable materials are used. Thanks to the translucent membrane, light should be uniformly distributed, thus making artificial lighting superfluous during daylight hours. Thanks to protection from extreme heat in the summer and extreme cold in the winter, the textile roof also improves thermal comfort and interior acoustics, states the company.

The sports hall in Joué-les-Tours should be dedicated entirely to the pleasure of practicing sport and at the same time extremely economical to operate. (Stadionwelt, 21.05.2014)
