Feyenoord and Stadion Feijenoord Agree On Unification
Feyenoord has reached an agreement with the stadium organisation as wells as their ownership group to take over control of the venereable venue. The club will acquire a 95% stake and commit to extensive investments.
Feyenoord (Club), Stadion Feijenoord (Stadium), and the Association of Stadion Feijenoord Shareholders (VASF) have reached an outline agreement on the conditions under which the club will acquire a 95% stake in the stadium through the issuance of new shares. This agreement paves the way for the unification of club and stadium.
Following joint further development of the outline agreement, the VASF board will advise its members to agree to an adjusted unification proposal. This proposal will be presented to the shareholders and certificate holders of the stadium during an extraordinary shareholders' meeting in February 2026.
The agreements reached after a series of discussions can be summarized as follows:
- The club acquires 80,635 new stadium shares for an amount of around 3.7 million euros (approx. 4.32m USD / 3.2m GBP)
- The club commits to making 3 to 5 million euros available annually to the stadium for the next 10 years to be used for necessary investments, in addition to regular rent payments
- The V-Shareholders will retain the use of their free seating rights and associated rights for another 15 years
- Thereafter, V-Shareholders can exchange their shares for freely tradable Seat Licenses, which grant the right to purchase season tickets under the conditions applicable at that time for 30 years, extending through 2071
- Alternatively, the Club is prepared to purchase a number of V-shares annually at a price that decreases over time
Dennis te Kloese, General Director of Feyenoord, called the agreement “very good news” now that the parties have reached consensus. “With this agreement, we are finally taking the very important step toward the long-desired unification between club and stadium. This is crucial for the future of the stadium and for the further development of the club, and the agreements also do justice to the special position of the shareholders as the original financiers of the stadium. It is therefore very good news for all Feyenoord supporters.”
Lilian de Leeuw, Director of Stadion Feijenoord, stated: “It is excellent that an outline agreement on unification has been reached. This is a historic step that fulfills a long-cherished wish of Feyenoord, the Stadium, and supporters. I am pleased that the shareholders are expressing their support. We can now get to work in the short term on the necessary maintenance of De Kuip.”
VASF Chairman Conré Oostrom is equally satisfied: “The V-shareholders also understand the necessity of unification. We have always been willing to consider this, but naturally, the rights and interests of the V-shareholders had to be taken sufficiently into account. After a series of discussions with the board, where we as VASF have been able to achieve considerable improvements for our members, there is now a fair package that we can present to the V-shareholders with a positive voting recommendation.”
Stadium management had previously indicated that 70 million euros are needed for immediate renovations to ensure compliance with KNVB and UEFA requirements. Without securing this funding, De Kuip would risk losing its license to host matches, which could ultimately bring football at the iconic stadium to an end. The stadium itself does not have the financial capacity to fund these upgrades. Consequently, the board views Feyenoord as the only viable partner capable of preserving the venue.
The outline agreement will be further developed in the coming weeks. The new unification proposal will then be submitted for approval to the shareholders and certificate holders of the Stadium. This will take place at an extraordinary shareholders' meeting of Stadion Feijenoord scheduled for February 2026. (stadiaworld, 05.01.2026)
