Second Chance for Gran Canaria Stadium Tender

After failing to generate offers during its first issue, the tender for the expansion and renovation of Estadio de Gran Canaria has been re-published. The budget under which the works have to be realised has been increased significantly.

UD Las Palmas’ stadium is set to undergo modernization to be made fit for the FIFA World Cup 2030. Capacity will be expanded to 45,000, the VIP areas remodeled and extended and a new roof and façade installed. A tender published in June 2026 set out to find a company to realise the project by summer 2029 (hoping to host the FIFA World Cup 2030) and within a budget of 174.71 million euros incl. VAT (approx. 202m USD / 149m GBP), yet failed to attract offers.

According to reports, the ambitious time frame, stark penalties for delays, and cost overruns as well as the small budget (reportedly up to 40% under market rates) were main reasons for the unsuccessful search. Opening on August 7, 2026, the project went to tender again – with a revised budget of 234.8 million euros incl. VAT (approx. 271m USD / 201m GBP). (stadiaworld, 12.08.2026)
