Fan experience at Philips Stadium to be improved

After a feasibility study concluded that the Philips Stadium in the centre of Eindhoven can be expanded in principle, PSV is taking the first steps to improve its home ground.

The history of the Philips Stadium in Eindhoven dates back to 1913, when it was still used as a sports ground. Over the years, the stadium has undergone numerous extensions and renovations, transforming the former sports ground into the stadium it is today.
The last major work took place at the turn of the millennium, when the corners were closed in the run-up to the 2000 European Football Championships in Belgium and the Netherlands and the stadium reached its current capacity. When PSV Eindhoven play at home, the Philips Stadium has a capacity of 35,119.

In October 2023, the club commissioned a feasibility study on a possible stadium expansion to meet the demands for a modern venue and the increased interest in PSV Eindhoven. Six months later, PSV presented the results of the study, which concluded that nothing stood in the way of an expansion. There is talk of a possible expansion of 10,000 seats to 45,000. Before this can happen, the corresponding costs and technical feasibility must be determined.

Meanwhile, the club is already taking the first steps to improve the fan experience. Stadium director Sjors van den Boogaart sees a lot of catching up to do in the upper tier of the north stand. The outer façade is still partially open and therefore unprotected from precipitation. In order to counteract this, the outside area is to be sealed around the perimeter.

Initial measures to improve the fan experience relate to the façade on the east side as well as the catering stands and toilets.

The catering stands will also be improved and the number of toilets available will be increased to offer fans a more comfortable experience. "Additional toilets and better catering facilities should ensure shorter queues. We are still in talks with the municipality about the start date, but I assume that we will be able to start work as early as next season", says van den Boogaart. (stadiaworld, 13,05,2024)
