The most sustainable EURO ever?
In a collaborative effort, the DFB (German Football Association) and UEFA have set a goal to establish new benchmarks for sustainability in organizing major sporting events with UEFA EURO 2024. The foundation for this is the developed ESG strategy.
Sustainability and sustainable development have become firmly embedded in political and societal discourse. Especially in light of climate change, more and more companies are aligning their policies accordingly. This trend is increasingly evident in the sports world as well. From measures in local sports to comprehensive strategies in professional sports, the focus has been on utilizing renewable energies and reducing CO2 emissions. UEFA EURO 2024 aims to serve as a role model for innovative approaches and strategies in planning and hosting major sporting events with a view toward sustainability. This goal was communicated from the beginning of the bidding process by both UEFA and the German Football Association.
