Most sustainable festival in London's Hyde Park
With new green initiatives, including CO₂ reductions and labeling on food and drinks, the BST Hyde Park Festival aims to make a statement for environmental protection and sustainability. The festival is expected to attract up to 65,000 visitors.
The British Summer Time Hyde Park (BST Hyde Park) is a festival that has taken place annually in London’s Hyde Park since 2013. The BST Hyde Park will take place this year from 28th June to 14th July, 2024, with international artists such as Andrea Bocelli and Robbie Williams performing every Friday to Sunday. The organizer has now announced plans to make the festival the most sustainable in its history with various measures.
AEG Europe, a leading provider of live sports and entertainment, has announced a series of measures to minimize the environmental impact during BST Hyde Park. Through partnerships with the sustainable mobility provider "Lowr" and the charity "Keep Britain Tidy," the company aims to further highlight sustainability principles.
Sustainability measures for BST Hyde Park 2024 include the elimination of Scope 1 and 2 emissions, CO₂ reductions, and CO₂ labeling on the menu cards. By using biochar for CO₂ capture and saving all Scope 1 and 2 emissions, BST Hyde Park is set to become the most environmentally friendly festival series by AEG Europe. Additionally, all food and drinks will feature a color-coded system to highlight the most environmentally friendly options for consumers.
An effective waste management system is another key element of the sustainability strategy. 100% compostable tableware will be used throughout the venue, and a limited system for reusable cups will be tested. In collaboration with Keep Britain Tidy, portable ashtrays will be distributed to collect cigarette butts. Furthermore, a collection and recycling program for e-cigarettes will be part of the sustainability measures.

The partnership with the sustainability platform Lowr will allow ticket holders to log their journey and quantify the total CO₂ impact of their travel. This data will be used to develop strategies for reducing environmental impacts in future years.
"Sustainability is a core driver of our business decisions," said Sam Booth, Director of Sustainability at AEG Europe. "We believe we have a responsibility to influence fan behavior and drive sustainable change."
BST Hyde Park 2024 will also focus on sustainable energy and power supply. Biodiesel generators and batteries will be used to provide efficient and cost-effective power, reducing fuel consumption on-site. (Stadionwelt, 28.06.2024)
