Cruijff ArenA: "Green" international match against Germany
The Nations League match between the Netherlands and Germany on 10th of September took place once again as a "green match" in the Johan Cruijff ArenA in Amsterdam, where the entire stadium was powered exclusively by renewable energy. This energy was primarily self-generated through solar power and stored in two of the stadium's own "super batteries." Prior to the match, Stadionwelt had the exclusive opportunity to look behind the scenes of the process.
Since 2018, the stadium in Amsterdam has had its first "super battery," made up of recycled electric car batteries. This system has achieved a storage capacity of 3 MW so far and has been used for grid stabilization, as an additional backup, and, of course, as a general storage unit for the stadium’s solar-generated energy.
