Olympics 2040 in North Rhine-Westphalia? A Venue Check

With the end of the Olympic Summer Games in Paris, attention now shifts to Los Angeles 2028. Twelve years later, Germany also wants to host the world's largest sporting event again. Stadiaworld takes a look at the landscape of sports venues in potential host cities. Part 2: North Rhine-Westphalia.

It has been known for years that Germany wants to apply for the Olympic Games again. Since the DOSB (German Olympic Sports Confederation) general assembly in December 2022, the country's official participation in the Olympic bidding process has been under review. Several important steps were made at the German House in Paris, including the signing of the Joint Declaration by the federal government, which aims to advance the bidding process together. By agreeing to sign, the federal government also committed to contributing nearly 7 mio. EUR (7.77 mio. USD / 6.09 mio. GBP) to the application costs. In addition to the Federal Ministry of the Interior and the DOSB, the cities of Berlin, Düsseldorf, Hamburg, Leipzig, and Munich, as well as the states of Bavaria and North Rhine-Westphalia, signed the "Memorandum of Understanding." It’s time to take a first look at the potential sports venues. In part one, Stadionwelt examined the German capital; part two focuses on North Rhine-Westphalia.
