Olympics 2040 in Hamburg? A Venue Check
With the conclusion of the Summer Olympic Games in Paris, attention now turns to Los Angeles 2028. Twelve years later, Germany also aims to host the world’s biggest sporting event once again. stadiaworld takes a look at the sports venues in potential host cities. Part 4: Hamburg.
Germany's desire to host the Olympics again has been known for years. Since the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) General Assembly in December 2022, the country's participation in the Olympic bidding process has officially been under review. At the German House in Paris, further steps were taken: for example, the federal government signed the Joint Declaration, committing to advancing the bid process collaboratively. By agreeing to the signing, the government also committed to contributing nearly 7 mio. EUR (7.6 Mio. USD / 5,8 mio. GBP) to the bidding costs. In addition to the Federal Ministry of the Interior and DOSB, the cities of Berlin, Düsseldorf, Hamburg, Leipzig, and Munich, as well as the federal states of Bavaria and North Rhine-Westphalia, signed the “Memorandum of Understanding.” With that, it's time to take a first look at the potential sports venues. In Part 1, Stadionwelt looked at the German capital, in Part 2 at North Rhine-Westphalia, and in Part 3 at Munich. The fourth part focuses on the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg.
