SAP Garden: New Jewel in the Olympic Park

The newly built SAP Garden in Munich's Olympic Park has been designed by Red Bull as the new home of its ice hockey team and for the basketball players of FC Bayern Munich – and as a centre for grass roots sports.

With the arena in Oberhausen (1996), the one in Cologne (1998), and the one in Hamburg (2002), three German metropolitan regions set major milestones around the turn of the millennium in the development of a new German arena landscape, which has since steadily evolved year after year in all categories. However, there were still two blank spots on the map where modern, large multifunctional arenas should have been expected, even up to 2024: Munich and Frankfurt. Since September 27, 2024 the Bavarian capital no longer finds itself in this position. With the opening of the SAP Garden, Munich now has full arena presence – with a particularity that arises from the local venue constellation and the location in the Olympic Park: As is well known, the constantly modernised Olympic Hall is still located right next door. This venue is available for the entire event mix, while the SAP Garden only hosts sports and sports-related events.
