Stadium capacity race: England to overtake Germany

With a variety of different projects on the horizon, England looks to be set for a veritable stadium construction boom. The same cannot be said for Germany, which begs the question: Will England soon overtake Germany in terms of stadium capacity?

Germany and England are undeniably two of the largest football nations in the world. The encounters between their national teams have been marked by a certain intensity for decades, especially due to the legendary "Wembley goal" in the 1966 World Cup. Considering the size differences between the two countries, both in terms of population (Germany: approx. 83.8 million; England: approx. 56.5 million) and area (Germany: approx. 357,592 km²; England: approx. 130,279 km²), it is probably natural: Germany has a higher number of large stadiums. For now. Because while English professional football has entered into something of an arms race when it comes to stadium development, relatively little is on the agenda in Germany.
