LA28 Olympic Venue Plan Updates
The IOC recently approved the venue plan for the Olympic Games 2028 in Los Angeles. Following that, LA28 announced additional venue locations, including the Dodger Stadium and the Crypto.com Arena.
The LA28 Games will mark Los Angeles’ third time to host the Olympic Games, previously hosted in 1984 and 1932, and first time to host the Paralympic Games. The original venue plan was revised with regard to fan experience and sustainability before the organizers presented additional sports venues a few weeks later. At the beginning of 2025, the infrastructure concept from one source was announced. Following the approval of the sports venue plan by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), LA28 published further venues for the Games.
The area in the Southern California Region extends from the Sepulveda Basin Recreation Area in northwest Los Angeles, where 3x3 Basketball, Modern Pentathlon and various BMX and skateboarding competitions will take place, to the Honda Center in Anaheim, which is located southeast of the metropolis and where Volleyball will be played.
In addition, Venice Beach in Los Angeles, famous for its sporting activities, will serve as the new home of Triathlon, which is relocating from Long Beach as well as the official starting location for the Marathon and the Cycling Road. The Dodger Stadium in Downtown Los Angeles will be the official venue for baseball. Boxing competitions will also be held Downtown at the Peacock Theater (preliminary matches) and the Crypto.com Arena (final stages). This update maximizes the use of these two existing world-class venues which will also stage events for Weightlifting at the Peacock Theater and Artistic Gymnastics and Trampoline in the Arena in Downtown Los Angeles, which is otherwise the home venue of the LA Lakers (NBA), LA Sparks (WNBA) and LA Kings (NHL).
“We’ve promised the world an incredible Olympic Games and today we’re proud to share the plan that will make it happen,” said LA28 Chief Executive Officer Reynold Hoover. “Los Angeles is the epicenter of sports, culture and entertainment, and every venue selected for the 2028 Games will provide athletes and fans the best possible experience. The 2028 Olympic venue plan invites communities from across the region to celebrate the Games coming to their backyard with the most exciting sports staged at some of the world’s top-tier existing stadiums and arenas, famous beaches and purpose-built temporary structures.”
Several venues will also be located in surrounding cities of Los Angeles. For example, Beach Volleyball will be held on Alamitos Beach and Coastal Rowing, which will make it first Olympic appearance, on the waterfront just 32 km south of Los Angeles in Long Beach. Other venues include Carson, which is centrally located between Los Angeles and Long Beach, and Arcadia, northwest of Los Angeles. The Carson Stadium is intended for Archery and the Santa Anita Park in Arcadia for Equestrian. (stadiaworld, 16.04.2025)
