Displays: University of Richmond Upgrades Robins Center

Daktronics was recently selected by the University of Richmond to manufacture and install X LED displays at Robins Center for Spider Athletics events. Installation took place this summer and the displays are installed and operational.

“In this new era of intercollegiate athletics, it continues to be a top priority for Spider Athletics to upgrade our venues to enhance the fan and student-athlete experience,” said John P. Hardt, vice president and director of athletics, on the Spiders website.

Corner Video Display Details

Four video displays are installed to improve the fan experience at Robins Center. One in each corner, each display measures 15.5 feet high by 33 feet wide and features 3.9-millimeter pixel spacing to deliver crisp, clear imagery to fans in every seat.

Each display is capable of variable content zoning to allow for each display to show one large image or to be divided into multiple zones of content. This includes any combination of live video, instant replays, up-to-the-minute statistics and game information, graphics and animations, and sponsorship messages.

“I attended the first event at the Robins Center and it was electric!” said Fran Kulas, Daktronics sales representative. “To see the fans’ reactions and hear their remarks when they entered the arena, seeing all the new Daktronics LED products lit up for the first time, was priceless. We appreciate the opportunity to partner with the University of Richmond to enrich this special venue and enhance the experience for student-athletes and fans alike.”

Additional Display Details

Hanging above the center of the court, a single ribbon display measures roughly 3 feet high by 66 feet in circumference. Above each entrance to the seating area in the corners of the arena, a total of four long, narrow displays each measure 2.5 feet high by 16.5 feet wide. These displays feature 3.9-millimeter pixel spacing as they deliver additional graphics and game information, supplemental to the corner displays.

Along the sides of the court, 11 LED scorers tables are installed to deliver even more graphics and statistics to complete the engaging fan experience. Each display measures 2.5 feet high by nearly 10 feet wide and features 3.9-millimeter pixel spacing. These can be aligned in any grouping or configuration to meet the needs of the university for any given event.
