Progress on Plans for Olympic Stadium in Brisbane
The site for the new Olympic Stadium in Brisbane has been locked in. Renderings show what the venue for the 2032 Summer Games could look like. Plans for the Melbourne Cricket Ground “The Gabba” are also progressing.
In spring 2025, the Queensland Government unveiled its venue plans for the 2032 Summer Olympics in Brisbane. Prior to this, there had been lengthy discussions about converting the Brisbane Cricket Ground, known as “The Gabba”, into an Olympic stadium. However, the plans were scrapped and revised: the new stadium for the opening and closing ceremonies, as well as the athletics competitions, is to be built in Victoria Park. “The Gabba” will be demolished after the Games.
