IOC Announces Timeline for Awarding 2036 Summer Olympics

At the IOC Session in Lausanne, the timeline for awarding the 2036 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games was announced. When the decision will be made, what the process will look like, and what new developments there are.

Numerous cities and regions around the world are hoping to host the 2036 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games. These include, amongst others, three candidates from Germany (Munich, Berlin, CologneRhineRuhr). Furthermore, India remains a prominent contender with the city of Ahmedabad. Qatar has submitted an official bid and hopes to score points with the existing infrastructure from the 2022 FIFA World Cup. In Asia, South Korea also has ambitions, with a decentralised model for North Jeolla Province in the south-west of the country. From Latin America, Santiago de Chile has already submitted an official bid. Other potential candidates include Turkey (Istanbul) and Saudi Arabia. Northern England could also put in a bid – though it is likely to be targeting the Games in the 2040s.
