University of Houston completes season with new display

When Cougars football fans headed to TDECU Stadium for the 2024 season, they were greeted by the second-largest end zone video display in the “Big 12”. The University of Houston selected Daktronics for the implementation.

“Video boards are easily the most dynamic piece for fan interaction at college football games. The original board at TDECU Stadium was impressive when it was installed 10 years ago, but it was time for an upgrade,” Senior Associate Athletics Director for Capital Projects T.J. Meagher said. “Our new state-of-the-art board enhances the fan experience through crystal-clear, high-definition visuals and instant replays, while also creating a more immersive atmosphere through engaging graphics, animations and live game stats. The feedback from our fans and supporters during the 2024 season was extremely positive. Through partnering with Daktronics, we can offer attendees a video display which rivals anyone in the Big 12.”

The end zone video display measures approximately 44.5 feet high by 160 feet wide and features 10-millimeter pixel spacing to deliver crisp, high-definition imagery to fans throughout the stadium. It incorporates industry-leading environmental protection ensuring it operates as expected in the outdoor elements of Houston.

“We’re excited to once again work with the University of Houston on this LED display project at TDECU Stadium,” said Brandon DeSmet, Daktronics sales representative. “These enhancements really bring an added element of excitement to game day and it was great to be a part of this project making a positive impact for Cougars football.”

The display is capable of variable content zoning meaning it can show multiple windows of content to fit the needs of the university and Cougars Athletics. This includes any combination of live video, instant replays, up-to-the-minute statistics and game information, graphics and animations, and sponsorship messages.

This display measures roughly 2.5 feet high by 233 feet long and features the same 10-millimeter pixel spacing.
