Wilmington Bringing LED Video to Brooks Field

Daktronics has partnered with the University of North Carolina Wilmington to design, manufacture and install two new LED video displays at Brooks Field. The project is underway and will be up and running during the 2025 season.

“The addition of a video board will enhance the fan experience at Brooks Field,” said UNCW Director of Athletics Michael Oblinger. “This is another step for us in upgrading the facility, which is set to host another great schedule of college baseball.”

Video Display Details

The outfield video display will measure nearly 23 feet high by 35 feet wide and will feature a 10-millimeter pixel spacing. It will also feature industry-leading environmental protection to ensure it operates as expected in the outdoor North Carolina environment while delivering excellent image clarity and contrast for Seahawks fans inside Brooks Field.

“To be part of the great new renovations of Brooks Field is truly an honor,” says Corey Williams, Daktronics sales representative on the project. “We’re proud to be working with our long-time partners at UNCW to further enhance the game-day experience for Seahawks fans. We’re looking forward to seeing both displays up and running this season.”

The video display is capable of variable content zoning, which means it can show one large image or be divided into multiple zones of content to ensure the right mix of video, graphics, statistics and information is available for the fans. This includes any mix of live video, instant replays, animations and sponsorship messages.

Backstop Display Details

Behind home plate will be a backstop display to allow for additional messages and sponsor recognition. This display will measure nearly 2.5 feet high by 15 feet wide with a 6-millimeter pixel spacing. It can be coordinated with the outfield display or operated independently – whatever is needed for UNCW’s productions.

Tying the production together, Daktronics is delivering a complete Show Control solution. This industry-leading control system provides a combination of display control software, world-class video processing, data integration and playback hardware that forms a powerful yet user-friendly production solution. Included with the equipment installation, UNC Wilmington will receive a digital content package to be produced and delivered by Daktronics Creative Services, an in-house, award-winning creative group. (stadiaworld, 17.04.2025)
